SUNDAY SERMON

SERMON NOTES:

Cure for Doubt & Unbelief

John 14:23 - Modern English Version

23 Jesus answered him, “If a man loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our home with him.

Matthew 4:4 - Modern English Version

But He answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’[a]”

John 6:63 - Modern English Version

63 It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and are life.

Isaiah 55:10-11 - Modern English Version

10 For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there but water the earth and make it bring forth and bud
that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Psalm 89:34 - Modern English Version

34 My covenant I will not violate nor alter the word that has gone out from My lips.

Matthew 8:1-3 - Modern English Version

When He came down from the mountains, large crowds followed Him. And then a leper came and worshipped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”  Jesus reached out His hand and touched him, saying, “I will. Be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

  • Didn’t have the benefit of gospels and epistles (had doubt)

  • Ignorant of the word, not knowing what the word says about that

Mark 5:21-24 - Modern English Version

21 When Jesus had crossed again by boat to the other side, many people gathered to Him. And He was beside the sea. 22 One of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, saw Jesus and came and fell at His feet 23 and earnestly asked Him, “My little daughter is lying at the point of death. I ask You, come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed. And she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.

And many people followed Him and pressed in on Him.

Mark 5:35-43 - Modern English Version

35 While He was still speaking, some came from the house of the synagogue ruler and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”

36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid, only believe.”

37 He let no one follow Him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. 38 He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this uproar and weep? The girl is not dead, but sleeping.” 40 They laughed at Him in ridicule.

But when He had put them all out, He took the father and the mother of the girl and those who were with Him and entered where the girl was lying. 41 He took the girl by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were greatly astonished.

Mark 6:3-6 - Modern English Version

Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?” And they took offense at Him.

Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.” He could not do any miracles there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He was amazed because of their unbelief.

  • Seems like when faith is low laying on of hands is way to go

  • Took offense- strife -unbelief

    • They heard Jesus words- and sided against it (unbelief)

    • Ex God doesn’t heal anymore, miracles died with the apostles, money root of all evil, ect.

Two examples hard heart (unbelief) Pharoh after the 10 plagues and the Israelites not entering the promise land.

  • They hardened their heart to God’s truth

Hebrews 11:1 - Modern English Version

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

  • Expect God’s word to be fulfilled

  • Expectancy- Hoped for, assurance God will Honor His word

    • God will accomplish, God will prosper

  • Having faith in salvation, healing, finances, deliverance, protection- same faith

  • Simply Believe only believe
