PRAISE AND WORSHIP

SUNDAY SERMON

SERMON NOTES:

Experience the Full Power of Forgiveness

Romans 5:8-10 - Amplified Bible

But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Therefore, since we have now been justified [declared free of the guilt of sin] by His blood, [how much more certain is it that] we will be saved from the [a]wrath of God through Him. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Sonit is much more certain, having been reconciled, that we will be saved [from the consequences of sin] by His life [that is, we will be saved because Christ lives today].

1 John 1:8-10 - New Living Translation

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

  • We are not promoting sin consciousness, but every once in awhile we need a heart check

  • Are we becoming like Simon, a pharisee, and forgetting that we were once like that immoral woman

    • Have we forgotten that we were forgiven much, so now we don’t love much?

Mark 11:22-26 - Amplified Bible

22 Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. 23 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and [a]does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. 24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you. 25 Whenever you [b]stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him [drop the issue, let it go], so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings [against Him and others]. 26 [c][But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”]

  • Law of sowing and reaping

  • God forgives us so we will forgive others

  • As we forgive others God continues to forgive us of our sins

Matthew 18:21-35 - Amplified Bible

21 Then Peter came to Him and asked, “Lord, how many times will my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus answered him, “I say to you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven.

23 “Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves. 24 When he began the accounting, one who owed him 10,000 [a]talents was brought to him. 25 But because he could not repay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and his children and everything that he possessed, and payment to be made. 26 So the slave fell on his knees and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.’ 27 And his master’s heart was moved with compassion, and he released him and forgave him [canceling] the debt. 28 But that same slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him [b]a hundred denarii; and he seized him and began choking him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow slave fell on his knees and begged him earnestly, ‘Have patience with me and I will repay you.’ 30 But he was unwilling and he went and had him thrown in prison until he paid back the debt. 31 When his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and they went and reported to their master [with clarity and in detail] everything that had taken place. 32 Then his master called him and said to him, ‘You wicked and contemptible slave, I forgave all that [great] debt of yours because you begged me33 Should you not have had mercy on your fellow slave [who owed you little by comparison], as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And in wrath his master turned him over to the torturers (jailers) until he paid all that he owed. 35 My heavenly Father will also do the same to [every one of] you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart.”

  • The amount someone sins against us is little compared to the number of times we sin against God (God’s perspective POV)

  • Forgiveness- canceling and releasing the debt against you

Matthew 6:9-15 - New King James Version

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.  10 Your kingdom come.  Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.  11 Give us this day our daily bread.  12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.  13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.  [a]For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:14-15 - Amplified Bible

14 For if you forgive [a]others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses.

  • Forgive others-their [a]reckless and willful sins, [b]leaving them, letting them go, and [c]giving up resentment

Conclusion: Power of forgiveness

  • God is faithful to forgive you (ask for forgiveness)

    • Acknowledge you messed up/ fell short/ missed it

  • Forgive others-as God has forgiven you

    • If not, the Father can’t forgive you, and you sabotage your own relationship with the Father

  • Forgive yourself, if the shed blood of Jesus was good enough for God The Father; it has to be good enough for you

    • Receive the love of God, and the forgiveness of God

  • Power to Forget- forgetting the past sins

    • Forgetting your old sins

    • Forgetting sins against you

    • Leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment once and for all

Prayer: Asking for forgiveness and forgiving others
